A few years ago I received a text from my friend, Regina, that said, “Hey Jen! How are you? My friend, Darla, is a freelancer for Elle Magazine and she’s looking for someone to interview about middle age. I know you’re working on that middle age book, so I thought of you. Are you interested in speaking with Darla?”
Now, I am someone who believes that all press is good press, so I don’t typically turn down any publication that wants to write about me, but Elle Magazine?? Of course, I’m going to say YES. It’s Elle Freaking Magazine!
When I told the Hubs that I would be interviewed for Elle Magazine, he asked, “Why would Elle Magazine want to interview you?”
I bristled a bit at his question, but I had to admit there was a little voice in the back of my head nagging me with the same thought. But I pushed it away. Be confident! I told myself. Why wouldn’t Elle Magazine want to interview you?
“I don’t know,” I replied. “They want to interview someone who is middle-aged and doing cool stuff or something like that.” I realized I hadn’t gotten a lot of information from Regina. I wasn’t quite sure what Elle Magazine wanted to talk to me about. It didn’t matter. I’m a great interviewee! I can talk about anything!
“And they picked you?” the Hubs asked, frowning.
“Yesssss,” I said, exasperated. “You don’t think I’m worthy of an interview in Elle Magazine?”
