Okay, so many, many, many moons ago I was promoting a book on a local TV station. I can’t remember which one it was, but I know it was one of the earliest ones. Let’s say it was the original Spending the Holidays with People I Want to Punch in the Throat. The self-published pamphlet version.
Anyhoo, I’d been invited to one of those local morning talk shows where they have a bunch of interviews and a cooking segment or whatever. I was excited because it was going to be my first time on television. I was also excited because I thought I was going to be interviewed by the ah-may-zing Michael Mackie. I didn’t know him yet, but I felt like we’d be besties if we had a chance to chat.
Much to my dismay, when I arrived that morning I was told I would be interviewed by his co-host. She was fine. I guess. I was disappointed, but what can you do? I wasn’t a diva yet and I couldn’t just INSIST on M Squared (that’s what Michael’s closest friends and strangers on the internet call him).
I was still feeling down when I was directed to the Green Room. (That’s where the celebrities [and non-celebrities like me] and chefs hang out before it’s their turn to go on air.) Spoiler alert: not one Green Room I’ve been in is actually green. I have no idea why they call it that. I’m sure I could Google it, but I don’t really care that much.
The young woman escorting to me the Green Room asked about my morning and said she heard my book was “funny…for moms.” I kind of tuned her out, because:
