Discover more from People I Want to Punch in the Throat
It’s been a year since I joined Substack and I’ve got quite an eclectic bunch of subscribers over here. Some of you have been around “since the Elf on the Shelf,” some of you found me on Facebook, some of you read Midlife Bites: Anyone Else Falling Apart, Or Is It Just Me?, and some of you are related to me (Hi, Mom).
But more and more of you are stumbling into my little cul-de-sac on the internet because Google or Substack told you to come here, or because a friend shared a post with you. This week has been a steady influx of new folks and I’m thrilled you’re here, but the emails I received from many of you showed me that a lot of you have no idea that I have been doing this for years. So, today is a recap of it all:
Yeah, that’s a blank book because you probably have a list you need to make.
All the way back in 2011, I started the blog PEOPLE I WANT TO PUNCH IN THE THROAT (the original). I don’t update it anymore and one of these days Blogger will go poof into the wind and it will disappear, but until then, I have 100s of posts over there you can read.
I wrote some popular things back before TikTok existed and everyone stopped reading and started dancing. The popular things got a lot of people to notice me and decide I was worth keeping in touch with. So, I’m all over social media and you can find me on your platform of choice.
I also wrote a bunch of books that you probably haven’t read. If you like reading my Substack, then you’re going to loooove my books because they’re actually edited and professional and shit.
Here they are in order:
I STILL Just Want to Pee Alone
My Lame Life: Queen of the Misfits
Just a FEW People I Want to Punch in the Throat
I Just Want to Hang Out With You
Midlife Bites: Anyone Else Falling Apart, Or Is It Just Me?
These are all Amazon links, but the books are available:
at your local bookstore
at your big bookstore
on all the e-book platforms—even the ones you’ve never heard of
at your library
If the book you want isn’t in stock at the bookstore or library, ASK them order it for you—they love helping customers.
Also, I’ve been working on Living with People I Want to Punch in the Throat [Insert ridiculously long subtitle TBD HERE] on Substack. It’s an experiment I’ve been trying out. You can follow along and read it when you upgrade your subscription to paid.
Oh, and I travel a bunch too! I’ll be in Columbus, Ohio later this month and in October I’ll be performing stand-up in Kansas City. Look for me in Louisburg, Kansas in November!
I think that’s all for now. Oh wait. There’s a podcast—two of them, actually—that kind of got put on the back burner(s) and forgotten about.
It’s time to fire up the No Pants podcast again, so if you have an idea for a guest, let me know!
Happy Saturday!
Hey, Jen! I hear Buc-ee's is expanding out of state. Beware.
Possibly a podcast guest: I follow Meagan McGovern on Facebook, and adore her! She and I could hardly be more different, except her oldest son is a recent graduate of a college close to the one I attended in Minnesota and Meagan lived in Texas at one time. She's an in-progress memoir writer, homeschooler, newbie Scout troop leader (girl troop in BSA), frugal, DIY-er, knows the ins and outs of farming and cooking gluten-free, etc. Someone that I could listen to for a long time as long as she didn't expect me to participate in anything much with her. Right now she is building bookshelves using good old barn wood from last summer's project of fixing up their barn. Check her out! (Especially scroll back a few weeks to her reposting of her mother's obituary. You'll get a real sense of where Meagan is coming from.)
You and Jen Hatmaker would be amazing
