Last night I found out that Midlife Bites: Anyone Else Falling Apart, Or Is It Just Me? was nominated for a Goodreads Choice Award.
This is a big deal to me because readers get to decide the winners on this list. There are categories for several genres and my book is in the Humor category.
A few years ago People I Want to Punch in the Throat: Competitive Crafters, Drop-off Despots, and Other Suburban Scourges went all the way to the Finals. I lost to Amy Poehler—a worthy opponent.
This time there are SO MANY worthy opponents in the category and so now I’m just taking it one day at a time. I’d like to at least get to the next round…and if I make it, then I’ll want to get to the next round…and so on. I’m not sure how many rounds there are, exactly, but I’ll be grateful for each level I hit.
I can’t do it alone, though. I need your help. I need you to vote. Sure, there are probably other books in that category that you like a lot, but were they written by your bestie, Jen? Do they have badass lightning bolts on the cover? Are they pink? Mine is ALL of those things and that’s why you should vote for it.
You should also vote for my book because everyone loves an underdog story and I am the ABSOLUTE underdog in this category. I’m up against legends like David Sedaris and Mel Brooks. I’m competing against legit stars like Judd Apatow, the Office Ladies, Molly Shannon, and Hannah Gadsby. Conan O’Brien wrote the forward for one of those books and it took all my self-love to NOT vote for that dumb bird book just based on the title. I WILL buy it though because it sounds hilarious. I just won’t vote for it.
