Like you, I bought every book my kiddo wanted to read, regardless of the genre. Now that she’s an adult, she still loves to read. Mission accomplished.
Oh my gosh - you are so RIGHT!! Everything counts - who cares what it is - please please, teach your kids to love reading!! No matter what - car mags, graphic novels, whatever - read!
Ooohhh...that so counts as reading! When my kids were younger and my Mom would go to the mall with us, she would get a kick out of the fact that my kids would walk right past the candy store, but throw a huuugggeee fit if we didn't go in the bookstore. Of course I always bought the books they wanted. My mom was a teacher, so she loved it.
Learn to Read so you Read to learn! If they are reading they are learning, it doesn't matter what it is. I would have reacted the same way you did. Prob. much worst. Oh yeah and what landfill will get all those funko pops! But please recycle. Don't get me started.
To hell with the rude clerk. On Aldolpha’s behalf, I kind of want to punch him in the throat myself.
When I was growing up, my Mom was the absolute best about books. As a single income parent, she didn’t have a lot of extra money (read none here), but she took me to the local bookstore on Friday for one book of my choosing. I’ve carried on the tradition with my daughter. This family has never said “no” to a book. Or a library card. Obviously.
I remember being embarrassed by my college Lit teacher (who I thought was so cool) for rolling her eyes at me reading Danielle Steel. I was a straight A student and just wanted to read for fun, and she made me feel bad about it.
Growing up, I experienced a similar controversy about the literary merits of “The Stupids”, but mom relented and I read the entire series, and look at me now!
What an ass. That's all I do nowadays is listen to audio books and I learn a shit ton from them.
